Admission Process

Amy Biehl High School is a public charter high school and our enrollment is by lottery. Lottery applications are accepted at anytime.  If you are interested in Amy Biehl High School, please fill out our Lottery Application (English and Spanish). We conduct the lottery in mid-February for the following school year  and we accept as many new students as allowed by total enrollment. The remaining students for whom there is no room are placed on a waiting list.  All families are notified of the results of the lottery by letter and phone. Additional lottery draws are conducted from the waiting list as space allows in the total enrollment.

New students and their families are required to attend Admitted Students Day in the early spring at which time the Principal reviews school rules and expectations and families complete and turn in registration packets for the school.  Unless extenuating circumstances arise and arrangements have been made and approved by the Principal in advance, a student who does not turn in a registration packet on or before this day will be deemed to have forfeited his/her eligibility to attend the school.

Siblings of current students are automatically accepted and do not have to participate in the lottery.  However, families with siblings must notify the school of their intent to enroll prior to the first lottery draw in mid-February.  Notification of the procedure for siblings is given to current families in late December and then again through several channels in January.  Communication is through the mail, website, parent email list-serve and advisory.  If the school does not receive notification of a sibling’s intent to attend prior to the deadline, that sibling is no longer guaranteed a spot in the school.  Siblings are defined as the brothers or sisters of current students who are blood relatives and/or share the same legal parent/guardians.  In the case of foster children or foreign exchange students, the parents must present the school with legal documentations that shows that they are the legal guardians of such student(s).

Students who are currently enrolled in ABHS shall be automatically accepted for the following year. Current students are asked in spring family meetings to indicate their intent to return for the upcoming school year.
